And May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
Red, the White and the Blue
WHAT PROMPTED GEORGE WYTHE TO
ADOPT A THREE-TIERED SCHOOL COLOR STANDARD?
may say that
we loved God and Country and that our patriotic roots spurred us to
make such a decision.
FACT, PATRIOTISM DID
ENTER INTO THE DECISION AT ALL!
Since the "NEW"
George Wythe High School was a conglomerate of former
John Marshall (Blue
and Thomas Jefferson
students, the "School Colors" were so chosen to recognize and
both schools' roots in our formation.
NOW YOU KNOW THE REST OF THE STORY" !

|Forwarding Pages from 1963 Chancellor
There is a new profile in Richmond. It
is the intangible
silhouette of the spirit of George Wythe High School. After
shifting about like a sleepy puppy, the BULLDOGS are beginning to
settle down. Within every Chancellor, there is a quiet dignity and a
proud satisfaction that
comes only from working and sharing in a common
goal. Often this spirit is a
hearty yell. At other times it is the gladness in our hearts
that we are
Americans when the cadets play the national anthem. Spirit is
the efficient hum
of activity that is the integral part of every
organization. Even a snowball
battle in the parking lot and a classroom anachronism with the ensuing
are part of spirit.
FOR THE SOUL OF SPIRIT IS
STRUCTURE OF SPIRIT IS TEAMWORK, THE
ESSENCE OF SPIRIT IS PARTICIPATION,
THE PULSE OF SPIRIT IS UNITY, AND THE
RESULT OF SPIRIT IS SUPPORT.
Thus, each Chancellor contributes to the
George Wythe High School.

of our most creative and entertaining resources for memorabilia, truly
from the heart, has been indirectly contributed by Marty Gochenour
(Piazza) via email. Marty (as her friends know her) graduated as 1 of
13 "honor students" from the Class of 1963. Marty's enthusiasm, her
detailed accountings of memories from GWHS, and her humor have inspired
a Marty's Memories
page to share some of her thoughts and history, both past and present,
Please enjoy Marty's Memories as much as we have enjoyed them.
